The Greek word translated “redeemed” in 1 Peter 1:18 is lutroo.. It means “to ransom.” We were ransomed. We know what it means to be ransomed. If someone gets kidnapped, then you have to pay a ransom to get him or her back. What is the usual threat if the ransom demand isn’t met? Murder!
“Let not sin…reign.” All we have to do to give sin the upper hand in our lives is nothing. If we are simply passive, we will let sin reign. We cannot afford to be passive about sin. We need to take a proactive stand against it.
the blood of Jesus Christ has loosed us from sin and its consequences of death and division and has opened up to us the revelation of God’s ultimate destiny for us—which is to reign with Him as priests in the kingdom of God.
We were not redeemed by silver or gold, but by the precious blood of Christ! What gives the blood of Christ its worth? It is sinless. But it isn’t simply sinless by nature; it is also sinless by proof.
